This part is fairly experimental. Now that Games are shipping on DVDs more often, a lot of this is not extensively tested.
I find it a pain to have a disc in the drive just to play a game. No CD patches are great for this, and you can sometimes have your DVD install them for you.
All you have to do is find the executable in the DVD files if it exists. It is sometimes named with an .ex_ extension, or other extensions. All you have to do is copy the crack over the top of the original exe.
This is a bit hit-and-miss, and of course it means updates won't work since it finds the modified executable.
Sometimes it is possible to create a DVD with more than one game on it. I've only done this a couple of times, and probably works best with file-based installers)
Basically it involves copying the data directory we created earlier to the DVD into a directory of its own. Then run the installer from in that directory
This is something I may look into more. It would be handy to create a DVD compilation of a game and its expension packs. Or a game full of a certain type of game.
For this guide, probably not much. It works most of the time, and DVD-based games are becoming much more popular now. As DVD9 games come more popular (there have been a couple of titles so far), I may look into ways of compressing them to DVD5
Then there is the upcoming HD-DVD and BD-RE discs...imagine what is possible with them. I guess time will tell
